Overview

How we treat bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder responds best to consistency: steady sleep, the right medication, and early action when warning signs appear. Our PHP and IOP combine close psychiatric follow-up with skills for tracking mood, protecting routine, and catching episodes early. Treatment is for adults who are not currently in an acute manic or psychotic episode.

Who it helps

When bipolar disorder needs more support

PHP and IOP work when you can stay safe at home between sessions. If someone is in an acute manic episode, experiencing psychosis, or going days without sleep, a hospital level of care usually comes first. Our assessment will tell you the right starting point.

FAQ

Bipolar treatment questions

Can I start if I'm currently manic?

Usually not. Acute mania typically needs stabilization in a hospital first. Many people start PHP right after an inpatient stay, and we can coordinate that transition with the hospital before discharge.

Will I have to change my medications?

Not necessarily. Our psychiatric provider reviews what you take, what has worked, and any side effects, then makes recommendations. Decisions are made with you.

How long does treatment take?

It depends on how quickly mood stabilizes. PHP often lasts a few weeks, and IOP commonly runs 6 to 12 weeks. You leave with a written plan for warning signs and ongoing care.

Will my insurance cover it?

Most commercial plans cover PHP and IOP when they are medically necessary. We verify your benefits and tell you what to expect to owe before you start. How insurance works at Novaris

What if I'm in crisis right now?

PHP and IOP are not emergency services. Call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency department.
