Overview

How we treat depression

Depression narrows your life: less energy, less interest, fewer reasons to get up. One therapy hour a week often can't keep pace with that. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) give you treatment several days a week, so you practice new skills, report back, and adjust before old patterns take hold again. You go home every evening.

Who it helps

When depression needs more than weekly therapy

If several of these fit, a structured program can help. If depression has made it hard to get out of bed or keep up basic self-care most days, PHP is usually the better starting point. If you are having thoughts of suicide with a plan, call or text 988 or go to the nearest emergency department.

FAQ

Depression treatment questions

What's the difference between PHP and IOP for depression?

PHP is full-day treatment, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Novaris. IOP uses the same therapies in fewer hours per week, so many people keep working. Many people start in PHP and step down to IOP as their mood stabilizes. About PHP · About IOP

Do I have to take medication?

No. A psychiatric provider will offer an evaluation and recommendations. Whether to start, change, or stay off medication is your decision.

How long does treatment take?

It depends on how your symptoms respond, not a fixed calendar. PHP often lasts a few weeks. IOP commonly runs 6 to 12 weeks. Many people notice changes in energy and routine before mood lifts.

Will my insurance cover it?

Most commercial plans cover PHP and IOP when they are medically necessary. We verify your benefits and tell you what to expect to owe before you start. How insurance works at Novaris

What if I'm in crisis right now?

PHP and IOP are not emergency services. Call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency department.
